The ensemble Musica Aeterna was established in 1973 by Professor Jn Albrecht. From 1989 onwards the ensemble has been using original instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries, or their copies. Its repertoire embraces European music from the early 17th century to the classic period. Rediscovered compositions of Slovak authors are presented in concerts and recordings of Musica Aeterna as well. Artistic director and leader is Peter Zajek.
Musica Aeterna has been successfully cooperating with the Centre of Baroque Music in Versailles for several years, as well as with other foreign partners (Festival van Vlaanderen, Holland Festival of Early Music Utrecht, Festival Wiener Klassik, Carinthischer Sommer Villach, Days of Early Music Sopron, International Early Music Festival Prague, Bach Tage Berlin, Bachfest Leipzig, Swedish Baroque Festival Malm etc.).
Famous conductors and soloists, specialists in the field of Early Music, regularly appear with Musica Aeterna (Alfredo Bernardini, Christophe Coin, Paul Collaux, Richard Fuller, Enrico Gatti, Martin Gester, Paul Goodwin, Edward Higginbottom, John Holloway, Jan Kleinbussink, Catherine Mackintosh, Charles Medlam, Siegfried Pank, Andrew Parrott, Christophe Rousset, Olivier Schneebeli, Simon Standage, Melvyn Tan, John Toll).
Many of the more than 15 CD recordings were awarded prestigious international prizes, e.g. in 1994,1995 and 2002 the Diapason d'Or for the complete Concerti Grossi by Georg Muffat.
International critics highly acclaim the artistic results and musicianship of Musica Aeterna, considering it one if the leading Early Music ensembles in Europe.

The Slovak conductor Peter Zajek studied violin at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava and studied chamber music privately with Jan Albrecht. He also participated in a number of Early music master classes.
Peter Zajek has been concert-master of Musica Aeterna Bratislava since 1986 and artisic director since 1990. He is the music director and leader of Europe, which was honoured by a number of prizes for its recordings, as Diapazon dOr (the complete recording of Concerti grossi by Georg Muffat). Simultaneously he is the leader of the Haydn Sinfonietta Wien and lecturer of chamber music at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava, co-founder and president of the Centre of Early music in Bratislava, which organises a.o. annually international Days of Early Music.
Besides maintaining a busy performing and recording schedule with Musica Aeterna, he is active in musicological research. His research in music history and lectures are appreciated at home and abroad as well (Paris, Nrnberg, Wien, Mnster, Prague...). Since 1996 he is lecturer at the chamber music de partmen of the Academy of Music and Performing Arts.
Peter Zajek has also appeared as a chamber music partner with leading Early music specialist, as Andrew Parrott, John Holloway, Simon Standage, Stephen Stubbs, Paul Goodwin, R. Fuller and others.
